Well, so much for my hopes for an early spring! There are six inches of snow on my back porch! Still, if it has to be cold, it might as well snow.
I wanted to post this afternoon to remind everyone that THIS SATURDAY, February 13th, is the Valentine's Day Dance at Old Town Ballroom! If you're looking for a date destination for you and your honey, or for a place to meet new people and learn some dance moves, this is the night to come out! The doors will open at 7:30PM, and there will be food, drinks, a CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN, a group waltz lesson, and open dancing until at least 10:00PM.
Whether you're an experienced dancer or a total newbie, Old Town Ballroom's parties are a really fun way to practice what you know and learn a little something new. Students of all levels attend, and everybody dances with everybody else, so you don't need a date and you don't have to worry about being a wallflower! I hope to see you all there this Saturday!

Great Performances on Benders Night!
Hello Wichita!
I mentioned last week that there were going to be a couple of dance performances on Sunday at the Harry Reese Dance Studio. Well, the band was great and the dance numbers were incredible! Here are videos, in case you missed it:
And, because we ALL know I can't resist posting a good picture of an aerial, here's President of the Wichita Swing Dance Society Evan Borst throwing yours truly in "the Frankie."

Thanks as always to Ryan Rahn for his photo/videography.

Live Music and Dancing this Sunday!
This Sunday at the Harry Reese Dance Studio, don't miss a live performance by Wichita swing band The Benders! Even if you've never danced before, you can get your feet wet with beginner-friendly lessons from 6:30-8:00 on Sunday night, and then the band will play from 8:00-10:00.
As if that weren't ENOUGH fun for one evening, the Lindy Bombers (a small Lindy Hop dance team from Wichita) will be preforming TWO awesome dance numbers! Don't miss the chance to mingle with some of Wichita's friendliest people, hear a good band, and hit the dance floor. I hope to see you there!

Weddings in Wichita
I spent a VERY busy weekend representing Old Town Ballroom at the Wichita Bridal Show and Wedding Expo! This is a HUGE event that happens twice a year at Century II.
Hundreds of brides-to-be (along with their friends, families, and fiances) flood the floors of Century II's enormous facility, in search of inspiration for their weddings. Vendors of every kind you can imagine - photographers, florists, designers, venues, caterers, DJs, and dancers, to name a few - set up shop to show the brides what they have to offer. Of course, as dance instructors, Josiah and I did little bit more than just set up a booth. We also performed a dance routine on the main stage to show the brides how great their first dance can be if they take lessons with us!
Here's a snapshot of Josiah and me in our bridal fair finery:

Promoting ourselves at these bridal fairs is always a little bit stressful, but it's always exciting, too. And while I'm on the subject, I HIGHLY recommend attending the fair if you're engaged or planning to become engaged soon. Many of the vendors have special deals for the bridal fair only, so you can save yourself some money and get great ideas for your wedding at the same time. Also, seeing all of the different local businesses in one place makes for easy side-by-side comparisons. The next fair will be July 24th and 25th. For more information, click here.
That's all for now! Enjoy this beautiful Monday, Wichita!

Dance Videos from the Wichita Swing Dance Society Christmas Party!
As you may recall, we had the Dave Stephens band all the way from California playing at the Harry Reese Dance studio. A good friend of mine took some video of our jam circle (that's basically where one couple dances at a time to show off for a gathered crowd) and of the dance competition. Check them out below!

And finally, because I can't resist posting this, here's a picture of me dancing with Evan Borst, president of the WSDS. We're midway through an aerial called "the Frankie" after Frankie Manning, the father of Lindy Hop.

THAT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME!
HELLO WICHITA!
I'm still beaming from this weekend, that's how awesome it was. I hope you all got out and had as much fun as I did!
Friday night, I did check out Cool Blue at Player's, but they weren't playing the kind of music I hoped for. So, a group of buddies and I headed over to Tommy's Restaurant and Lounge (2121 North Tyler). The DJ there always takes requests, so in no time at all the play list was decidedly dancer-friendly! We danced, we drank, and then we danced some more (probably not as well as we had before the drinks.) My husband Bryan met up with us when he finished work, and it was really nice to have everyone together in one place. By the time we got home, I was exhausted and ready for a good night's sleep.
Saturday, the Snow Ball at Old Town Ballroom was AWESOME! There was a nice sized crowd of 30-40 people, with most of whom I had the pleasure of dancing. There were delicious Christmas cookies, along with Champagne punch for everyone to enjoy. We played all kinds of music and kept the dance floor pretty packed. Our guests looked FANTASTIC in their holiday finery, and the Ballroom itself was decorated with snow flakes and Christmas ornaments just about everywhere. Even Josiah (the owner of Old Town Ballroom) and I managed to look presentable! Here's a picture:

The party was supposed to end at 10:00, but everyone had so much fun that we ended up running til after midnight. Nice!
The fun continued Sunday night with the Wichita Swing Dance Society's Christmas party. The band was AMAZING, the place was full of happy people, and the dancing was incredible. I think you'd have to work pretty hard to find a group of people in Wichita more open, friendly, and enthusiastic than the WSDS. I used to think dances like the one last night only happened in the movies, but, what do you know, they're happening right here in the middle of Kansas! Sometimes I can't believe the good luck I've had that lead me here in the first place.
Well, I'm off to a meeting with one of my sellers. He's just gotten the first offer on his rental home, which is the house in my "Featured Property" section. Here's hoping for some productive negotiations!
Cheers, Wichita!
